Help us give a chance at life to a soul with heart problems. Learn Maria's story and how you can contribute.
Special Hearts Association Special Hearts Association is a non-governmental organization founded by us, Maria's parents, out of profound love for our daughter, hope, and the desperate need to give her a real chance at life.
Maria is only 1 year old and suffers from a severe heart malformation, associated with ZTTK, an extremely rare genetic syndrome, which makes the option of a heart transplant impossible in the future.
In the past year, Maria has undergone 3 open-heart surgeries, performed in Italy. Unfortunately, all were palliative; they saved her life temporarily, but did not solve the cause. The only real solution now comes from doctors at Boston Children's Hospital in the USA, who have proposed a complex surgical intervention, with the potential to restore her childhood.
With the extraordinary support of people and companies who chose to believe in Maria's chance, the amount needed for the first intervention, $361,000, has been covered, and the surgery has been officially scheduled for September.
A complex period follows in which Maria will be evaluated and operated on in the United States, and post-operative treatment will require constant investigations, careful monitoring and, possibly, a second intervention one year apart, a decision that will be made following on-site evaluations.
Maria continues to need support for this essential stage and for the recovery that will follow.
We founded this association to support Maria's fight in a legal, transparent and organized way.
All funds are directed exclusively towards the treatments, investigations and medical therapies she urgently needs.
We are fighting for our daughter's life. We invite you to be part of this effort.
Together we can make possible what seems impossible.
"[...] We received important news from Boston Children's Hospital (USA), where we sent the necessary documents for a medical opinion regarding the possibility of a biventricular correction. This intervention could prevent a heart transplant in the future.
The doctors from Boston gave us hope: Maria could be eligible for this correction, through a procedure to stimulate the growth of the left ventricle. So far, Maria has undergone three open-heart surgeries, the last one taking place on February 26, 2025 in a clinic in Italy. [...]"
